I set up ppp on my slackware system the way I always do with pppsetup.

I execute ppp -on, and it dials. It then connects, saying PAP Authentication was successful.
However, when I go into a browser (lynx, mozilla, konqueror, etc.) it does not allow me to surf, and within a few minutes, I can pick up the phone, and realize it has disconnected me.

It cannot resolve remote hosts, even before it kicks me off.

I set it up with the same settings I used on my manual setup on windows.

any help would be nice, thx in advance.

I am currently using the isp localnet (www.localnet.com), as it is pretty much the only non-aol provider in my area. their tech support (obivously) will not help with anything other than windows or MAC.

Never mind, it was a hardware problem...

I changed the init string and everything works fine under Kppp.

pppd itself from bash won't work for some odd reason, but Kppp works fine for me.

you can delete/lock this post if you want....
