Can a file be copied to a mounted windows partition when in a linux partition?

What distribution / version of linux are you running?
According to some writing to NTFS is fairly safe in the 2.6.15 kernel. IMO writing is still experimental and I would use a seperate partition from the OS and backup frequently. Writing to FAT32 is fully supported but it has its limitations in writing large files.
