I recently installed debian linux. I used apt-get to install apache server. I attempted to install PHP 5 but i was unsuccessful. Thebn i did something stupid. i installed XAMPP without uninstalling apache. I want to start over and remove the XAMMP installation. I tried using apt-get remove but i must have the details of which version incorrect. My questions are:

1) what is the simplest way to find which version of software I have installed ?
2) what is the easiest way to remove them?
