I am trying to download linux to an external hard drive, I have a dsl connection and want to know what is the fastest way possible to download the software and exactly which files am I suppose to download, please someone help me I need to set this up for a programming class.

Your post is somewhat vague? I assume you want to download a linux distribution and install it to an external hard drive? Any instructions from this programming class or suggestions?

I might suggest Fedora, SuSE or Mandrake. For Fedora go to http://fedora.redhat.com/. I assume you do not a 64 Bit PC so download the i386 version. Only the fc4.discx.iso files. You will need to burn them with Nero or Roxio. If you do not have either of these applications there are free ISO burning software for XP since it can not natively create CDs from ISO images.
