Is it possible to have RH9 email about the status of server or problems, errors, etc.
I run RH9, Squid, DansGuardian, and Samba mainly (along with DHCP)
And suggestions, and also can it do this through the evolution email client?

Thanks!!!!!! Ryan

Hi,

if you mean you want root's mail forwaded to your e-mail account well, that is really simple

in /root put the following file

.forward

and into this file put your e-mail address like this
CODE
username@isp.com

do a chmod 755 on .forward

also I think that you'll need to install postfix (not sure , I haven't tried this without postfix)
but on the postfix part you need to configure almost nothing) , maybe if you want you can specify
in postfix main.cf your domain name :
CODE
mydomain = firewall.mydomain.com

so you can later sort e-mail by sender to apropriate mailboxes.
Also from /etc/postfix/aliases , I removed the line with the root alias that is at the end of this file. I've completely removed it.

To get more detail out of your server modify the following line in this file
/etc/log.d/conf/logwatch.conf
CODE
Detail = High

Hope this is what you wanted.

Sincerely
Robert B
