Trying to get USB devices working in Mandrake 10.1. I know they work in Mandrake (on other machines) and on the PC in question (works in windoze).

The usbview command throws up this error:

"Cannot open the file /proc/bus/usb/devices

Verify you have USB compiled into your kernal. have the USB core modules loaded, and have the usbdevfs filesystem mounted."

I'm not even sure what all that means. I'm guessing I don't have USB support, how can I check? What do I need loaded, and what package(s) ought to be installed?

you can see, whether you have USB support compiled or not using :

#grep -i usb /proc/config.gz

normally, if you are using default kernel supplied with mandriva, you will have USB support compiled into the kernel. But if someone has re-compiled the kernel and removed the USB support then god help may have to recompile the kernel...
