right now, if i pop in my knoppix 4.0 live cd, this son of a gun finds everything on my winxp laptop....wireless card, boom, up and running on the net, hard drive, boom, no problem, usb drive, again, bada-bing, up and running...

but, my question, i have a spare pc, if i take that one and clear the hd and put a regular partition on there (non ntfs) and install knoppix, plug in my mn 520 usb wireless network adaptor, will knoppix find it then?

i can understand if finding it right now, because my win xp has the ms driver installed, and that is done via a standard windows installer program, but with a hd with just the partition for the linux, how will knoppix know what i have as a wireless network adaptor? or any adaptor that i plug into it, or am i way off base here?

Not FAT32...

You need to use a Linux filesystem like ext2/3 or ReiserFS. Ext2 is the "normal" one, (or ext3 which is the same, but has journalling support so can be scanned quicker following an unclean shutdown).

ok, and how is that installed onto the hd? is that already on the knoppix disk?

secondly, since you said the knoppix would pick up the wireless card, i curious, will my wireless microsoft base station find it? the reason i ask is because when i set up the wireless network for all four windows based pc's, the ms wireless networking software is installed on each one, and that of course, includes the driver, so if the software isnt there, but knoppix still reads the driver, will the connection be made to the wireless base station still?
