Whats this Lie-nix Thing?

Ok Linux people, no matter how hard I try, this OS doesn't like me. First- what is terminal? How do I get to it? It is my understanding that I need to go there to run everything. Is this like a DOS prompt? Installed Fedora 4, but this is nothing like Windows. Any online guides for very beginners.

Yes, linux is compeletely different then windows. A console terminal is similar to the DOS command line but many times more powerfull. In the linux world it is known as a shell and the default for most distributions is called bash or borne again shell. It is not necessary to run everything from the command line but it helps to know the basics.

An introduction to linux:

I do not use FC4 on a daily basis so my memory is fuzzy but select the system from the pull down menu and then click on xterm.
