Just looking for some tips getting my soundcard working in Debian on my Dell Inspiron 6000.
Under windows it is listed as SigmaTel C Major Audio.
I have used 'apt-get install alsa-base alsa-utils' under linux, and used 'alsaconf' but it tells me it cannot find any PCI or PnP cards, and offers to scan for legacy ISA devices, which I know it is not, but I scan anyway and it doesn't find anything.

Just wondering if there any other packages I could install or any othedr method for discovering and installing the soundcard.

I am using Debian 3.1 Sarge r0a with a 2.4 kernel.

I think it has something to do with the drivers that your kernel is loading

Run the "lspci" and "dmesg" commands as root - and post the output here
