I have just installed Suse 10.0 from a DVD, onto my external hard drive, for a dual boot with Windows XP. The installation seemed to go smoothly and Suse rebooted. I then selected 'boot from hard disk' from the Suse menu, and then I recieved this message:

Grub Loading Stage 1.5

Grub loading, please wait...

Error 16

Now I can't boot into either Suse or Windows. I am new to Linux and I'm not sure what to do now. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

One of two options: One, download a copy of Knoppix or some other live Linux CD, boot it up and show us what youre grub.conf file looks like. You will find it in /boot/grub/grub.conf

Or you can but up the computer and highlight one of the boot options and press e and copy by hand what each option says. Mostly I am interested in the option for Windows and the normal boot option for SuSE. Then we can help you. It looks to me like you have a poorly formed boot option.
