Whats this Lie-nix Thing?

I'm running Mandriva LE 2005 and X Server keeps starting on boot and I don't know how to exit it so I can install my nvidia drivers. Is there a console commands that I can use? Sorry, I'm a linux newb

Try pressing "control + alt + F1" at the same time

After that, try:

/etc/init.d/gdm stop
killall gdm
killall gdm-binary

Try each of those, and hopefully it will kill your X server.

Or (if X keeps respawning, as it sometimes does), after "ctral + alt + f1", login as root and type "init 4" to go into "maintenance mode"
