I noticed that a lot of people are having problems with ubuntu and sound. I am one of them sad.gif

anyway:
the problem
Everything *seems* normal, but I just can't seem to get any sound.

settings and specs
SOUND CARD
0000:00:1f.5 Multimedia audio controller: Intel Corp. 82801BA/BAM AC'97 Audio (rev 11)
VOLUME CONTROL
everything is set to 60% and unmuted
/dev/dsp
chmodded to 666
/etc/esound/esd.conf
I have changed this file, when following this guide: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SoundProblemsHoary
CODE
[esd]
auto_spawn=0
spawn_wait_ms=100
default_options= -terminate -nobeeps -as 2

the original file was:
CODE
[esd]
auto_spawn=0
spawn_options=-terminate -nobeeps -as 5
spawn_wait_ms=100
# default options are used in spawned and non-spawned mode
default_options=

Any help is appreciated,

Can you provide the output of the "lspci" command?

Please find the volume control setting, and see if all the bars are all the way down. (It seems that this is usually the case, and that this happens after every restart/logoff)
