so i was trying to install, and i needed to partition because i thought it would save my files. i didnt pay enough attention. now i realize that even when i partition, my files are going to be deleted. when i tried to quit it says my system might be unuseable. how bad would it be to quit the install? any help would be appreciated asap.

You can quit the install and have nothing bad happen as long as you never write the changes. But on the other hand by partitioning badly you can seriously mess your computer up. First what Linux distro are you installing. Second. Do you plan to multi boot. Third how much secuity are you looking for.

If you can get me this info I should be able to help you out.
