I know that this type for post should go in the programming forum but no one ever talks back in there so. I was wondering if any one knew any good SDL learning resources. And if they do what compiler should I use.

SDL can be written in C and C++. There are also bindings for other scripting languages like Java, Python, PHP, etc.

My best suggestion for learning SDL is to following the tutorials that are available on their website.

I've dabbled with SDL before, I only went as far as creating a pong clone, it worked quite well and was surprisingly easy once you got use to it, however, i haven't touched it in a while now.
