Before doing any of this, see if your distro has JRE on their CDs, or in any of their FTP mirrors.

If not:

http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp

You probally want the "Linux (self-extracting file)", as opposed to the Linux RPM.

As root, chmod +x *.bin

./j2re.bin (not it's real name xD)

After the install, go back to your user (su username), and cd ~

cd azureus

./azureus

If it complains about the path, then 'whereis java'. If nothing shows up, then (as root) updatedb

When that's done, "locate java | grep bin"

and you should fine the java binary (it will be in a bin directory).

PATH=$PATH:/path/to/bin/java
export PATH

You'll want to edit the PATH in /etc/profile (I think?) as well as your .bash_profile to make sure this stays even after you log out/restart your computer.

Hope this helps!

Mabdrake download doesnt have the JRE on CDs, but the RPM from Sun works fine. However, you will need to edit some files so that usewrs can actaully use java, as the rpm only puts the java files in the right palce.

There is a tuorial at: http://goland.org/Tech/Installing_Java_in_...ndrake_9_1.html
