I downloaded and installed Alsa-libs/utils/drivers all version 1.0.7 from www.alsa-project.org. During the install i got a message saying that my volume-control was killed and it never showed up again sad.gif

Using Gnome.

try the alsamixer command at the command prompt:

Yeah, i can also use gnome-volume-control but the whole point was to have the volume control as an icon on the panel... like the one on windows system tray...
