i have it all installed and working, but i cant access it from the outside, i havent worked with servers b4 on linux, is there something that have to tell linux so that it accepts packets on a certain port and sends them to this program, im sure that i have my router configured right

More information would be helpful...

IE - Does the server require inetd/xinetd (look in the docs)? Are you running a firewall? Can you connect to the port using a telnet/ssh client?
