hi my name is mark. i have built and am proud of a wonderful netwerk using (i know you hate it...windows).....( i am proud i set the netwerk up because in truth im a neandrothal boob who cannot type or spell well at times and have little understanding of DHCP/tcp/ip or WINS protocols let alone the english language... ) actually what i have done is built a gateway box with two nic's the first nic connects to my cable modem with a static ip then the second nic connects to a hub to the rest of the computers using ..i guess DHCP to set the subnet addresses?... the key here is then incoming signal is tcp/ip but then the gateway box changes all communication to netbeui a microsoft protocol which allows me a little protection from hacks and the computers to share all files and printers with very little difficulty and believe it or not very few crashes. But i know i need to learn linux too....

ok now with that as the foundation here is the question...i would like to proceed to learn linux but to access the net i need a way for linux to use the windows "internet connection sharing" protocols....

would someone be so kind as to direct me to a page that can explain things to idiots such as myself to do this or be able to answer this puzzle without using poly syllable words?

to any and all who respond thank you in advance!!

and i thot about doing the ip masking with linux as the gate way and i most likly will in time....but the learning curve is tuff for me being a ol fart and all...im trying to learn the nuances of ol billys xp which REALLY SUX but i know i gotta learn linux too.....so i thot if i could just get red hat up (which i actually do have) and connected to my netwerk to learn how to connect and then also to play with red hat for awhile and get familiar with it.....i think maybe trying to set up ip masq may be a il advanced for me....thank you for answering and i will think on it....hope you or someone else might have another solution? maybe? not trying to be picky just practical....
thanks again!
