I recently mounted a partition (hda5) onto the files sytem useing fstab. I can read-write to the files in hda5 on root with no problem, but can only read on my personal user. How do I change permissions for hda5 so all users can read-write on it? Thanks for your help.

here are some things for reading (just the usual for the cofee n cigarette pause)

then do this on that directory

chmod 775 /mountedthing (replacing mountedthing with the actoul mountpoint... do this before mounting things to it)

if you want everyone even global users to get access to this directory

chmod 777 /mountedthing

but I would play with 775

maybe create a group allowedstuff... put you and the rest of the allowed people into it

and chown root.allowedstuff /mountedthing

then chmod 775 /mountedthing

and it will allow root...und everyone in the allowedstuff group

But if your partition is of VFAT type it doen't support, permission bits.
So you will have to use UMASK 000.
