OK, I'm fairly new to Linux so be gentle. I'm running a webserver on SuSE 9.1 pro. I have it running in "command line" mode (terminology?). I have an external USB hard drive that I use for backups. I can mount the device and backup everything just fine. But I find that the usb storage device name is unusually long. Is there a way I can change the devices name to make it short and sweet?

Command Line is the correct term, well its Command Line Interface, not mode, and just call it CLI for short. "I have it booting into the CLI" "I use it in CLI"

Second, what do you mean by device name? Do you mean /dev/sda1 or what? I am not quite sure what you're refering to as the device name, clarify it a little and I can help you out.
