Hello,

I am pretty new to linux and I downloaded VNC and ran the install I then ran the vncserver script which i believe starts up Xvnc. Well on my windows box I am trying to use my Windows Vnc viewer to view the desktop currently running on my Redhat box but when I connect to 192.168.1.16:0 (IP of redhatbox) It takes me to a SHELL (command line) of the LINUX box. I even tried using the startx command after being vnc'd into the box but it just says

Fatal server
Cannot establish any listening sockets - Make sure an X server isn't already running

When reporting a problem related to a server crash, please send
the full server output, not just the last messages.
This can be found in the log file "/var/log/XFree86.0.log".
Please report problems to xfree86@xfree86.org.

What VNC server are you using? I'd suggest doing this:

www.tightvnc.com (get the linux version)
Install the rpm, or source. Doesn't matter
chmod -R 755 /etc/X11/xinit
as a REGULAR user, type: vncpasswd
Enter two passwords, one for viewing, one for controlling
vncserver :7 -rfbport 15003 -rfbauth <path it was saved to>

Where :7 is the screen your Xserver is running on
