Hi. a friend told me that i should learn to use linux instead of winxp. So i did and now that i have linux i am very confused. Every time i download a file it gives it to me in archived files that are code and i do not know how to get them to run. I am mainly concerned with getting ares or some other file sharing program on my system, however the install process has stalled because all i get are archived files that only have code. I am wanting to stay with linux but if i can't figure out how to work with this coding then i dont know if i will be able to... I am very confused and if someone would pleassseee help me i would appreciate it... thanx in advance. oh also i need a video media player if anyone knows where i can get one for linux.
I am using RedHat 9.0
I have an amd 3000 processor and a gig of ram.

ellejay123,
Welcome to LinuxHelp. Even though your problem is similar to the original posters it is really bad manners to ask your question in the same thread and to one that is basically dead ( from 2004).

You need to include the distribution / version you are running and any relevant errors while trying to install.
