Hi,

I would like to ask you people about automating tasks in Windows (batch files, scheulded tasks...etc), can you please tell me what things you are running automaticaly (I'm currently doing only Virus Scanner Update).

What services are reccomended to be executed automaticaly after the workhours...

for example : check if harddrive needs defragmentation if it does then defrag and after finished shut down, can anyone point me to some source that has examples with batch files like this ? (the problem is that the network is groving slowly, and I don't want to spend the rest of my life in this room from 8:00 to 20:00 , I would like to automate everything that I can.

Please help

Sincerely
Robert B

You can schedule items in most versions of MS Windows from the control panel.

You would write a batch file that does what you want, and then schedule it to run via the Control Panel -> Scheduled Tasks window.

Diskeeper 8 (or 9) can defrag windows disks after hours...

never ran winME...running win2k NTFS format...nothing automated not from anyone...no drives shared...running behind nice little firewall...never had adware, spyware or thing of the type on my system in years....i use mozilla for my mail client....not that outlook or outlook express stuff....i rarely use internet explorer...when im lazy i do...mainly use mozilla....

now in linux thats a whole other world...i have all kinda crap automated...
