hello, i'm new to linux. it's really fun, but it seem that i can't make my monitor and network card work. the monitor seem to shut down. how can i overcome it.

What do you mean by shut down? Does the computer go through it's bootup process? How long can you see text (or graphics) on your screen for? Do you remember the last thing you see on the screen before it goes out? What type of monitor do you have? What type of graphics card do you have?
