Whats this Lie-nix Thing?

My linux was working until one day upon boot up the screen goes blank just after the message "local host login> " appears. Then the screen stays blank. Any suggestions to correct the problem?? unsure.gif

try pressing CTRL-ALT-F1 (trough F6) if you have x installed then F7,

try typing in root [ENTER]
passord [ENTER]

setterm -blank
