Please can someone help me with what seems to be such an easy thing, but is driving me mad!

How do I find the computer's IP address (the equivalent of using IPConfig in Windows). At present, I log on to a windows FTP site on another PC, and see what the source IP address is of that session - not a very elegant method!

on a linux computer the command is ifconfig
