Whats this Lie-nix Thing?

I've been running various linux distros for about a year and I recently decided to take out my old cuecat and scan some barcodes for a web project I'm working on. It's the PS2 model and has been modified to skip around the encoding cuecats normally spew. However, when I hooked it up to my computer running SuSE 9.1 and scanned a barcode it returned a long string of numbers. At first I thought the cuecat had bit the dust, but I booted up an old dos bootdisk I had lying around and it scans just fine there, so I'm left wondering exactly what is wrong. My first thought was maybe it could be codepage related, but I'm not entirely sure how to check/change that in linux.

Any help would be apreciated.
