hi all the problem i have is killing me i have got a rh server with postfix installed and work as i can send mail out and to reseve mail from the out side world with imap work fine but i cant get outlook to connect to the smtp server port the port is open i have done a netstat and a nmap so it is there but no matter what i try out look will not connect to it be low is a copy of my main.cf

does any one have a thought on what i am doing wrong i can pick up mail off the server fine with imap and fetch mail get the mail from my isp np and if i send a mail from my linux mail box it go's out np but just cant send from outlook have set the smtp auth to plan.. i just dont know what els to try

So, if you are using MECH=pam in for saslauthd then you have to use PLAIN text or login as the authenication method ...

You would have to configure your server and the clients to use TLS to use encryption...

thanks for that i had done this already but to no joy so i restarted al the demons and restart the server and boom it works.

now i got a odd one to put by anyone.
got outlook running on local pc want to move the lot over to the linux rh server and use it like a exchange server with imap can this be done as ever time i try it look like out look is just storying things local i have imap and postfix all working fine with sntp auth working fine can send and everthing np now and sambe is running on the server with a windows 2003 server as the master and everthing but the last step in the job is to some how get all the users mail moved acrross to the linux server so everthing is held on the local server same as exchange. but useing linux so that they can log in from anyware and get there mail.

never had so much fun putting in a mail server smile.gif linux rocks

all fixed restarted all the intedd and reboot and it all worked also to get the client ot work had to set the auth to smtp in the email client then disable it after a bit odd but it seems to make a diffence
