i havve an 80 gig hd with winxp, mandrake 10 and a backup partition i want to uninstall mandrake 10 without damaging any of the partitions.

First thing you should do is get a dos bootdisk, check out www.bootdisk.com and download the windows 98SE or ME bootdisk image and write it to a disk. Boot off this disk and run:

fdisk /mbr

This will remove your linux bootloader from the master boot record.

Next, boot into Windows XP, right-click on My Computer and click "Manage". From the left tree, choose Disk Management. You should then see a bar graph of your partition setup. Right click on the section that says "Unknown Partition" which would be your linux partition, and click Delete Partition. You can then use this free space to create another Windows partition if you like.

i knew how to delete the partitions it was the boot loader i was worried about
