Hi,

I am using a Linksys ADSL Gateway, which has a built in modem, and am able to connect fine to it through Windows XP. However, I am unsure of how to configure SuSE Linux to use the internet it provides. SuSE works fine as a networked computer (IP 192.168.1.15) and can connect to the gateway and other systems fine, just not use the internet.

If anyone can help or if you need more info, then please ask smile.gif

Thanks.

Hi,

in order to be able to surf the net you'll need to tell linux which gateway to use and what dns server :

to check your gateway and dns server ip adress , just boot WinXP and under Settings --> Network Connection check what are those ip adresses

then go back to linux with root

type
CODE
route add default gw xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx

with this you tell your computer what gateway to use

and then
CODE
vi /etc/resolv.conf

press i
nameserver xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
press esc
type :wq
press enter

sincerely
