I am running an old PII with Mandrake 9.2 (kernel 2.4.22-36mdkcustom) and ever since i get this error message at my dmesg:

hda: task_no_data_intr: status=0x51 { DriveReady SeekComplete Error }
hda: task_no_data_intr: error=0x04 { DriveStatusError }

hda works anyway, but my computer freezes sometimes and i want to eliminate all probs to get to know wether it is an hardware only problem...

Now i found this "config_idedisk_multi_mode"-option for the kernel which is exactly in case of this error, activated it, built a new kernel and booted it. But it it didnt help, it is still there. Any ideas?

my hda is:
hda: ST38641A, ATA DISK drive

i use to get those messages constantly in my email.

so i went to the store and bought a new hard drive
