Whats this Lie-nix Thing?

Hello To All,
I like to write to do the next thing but do not know what to do in the program.
Please explain it step by step.
"Please go to the kernel sources directory (cd/usr/src/linux) and type "make cloneconfig && make dep"

I'm not sure if I understood this correctly, but ummm do you wan't to compile a new kernel from source?
