I reinstalled WIndows and of course it didnt ask me whether or not I wanted its bootloader.

So I popped in LiveCD SUse, the bootloader config looks great, there is an option to merge with my old menu, brings back all my settings, when it gets to install I get this error tho.
Probing devices to guess BIOS drives. This may take a long time.

GNU GRUB  version 0.94  (640K lower / 3072K upper memory)

[ Minimal BASH-like line editing is supported.  For the first word, TAB
lists possible command completions.  Anywhere else TAB lists the possible
 completions of a device/filename. ]
grub> root (null)

Error 23: Error while parsing number
grub> install --stage2=/boot/grub/stage2 / d (hd0) / 0x8000 (null)/

Error 12: Invalid device requested
grub> quit

I would really really appreciate any help anyone can offer.

I had a similar problem using grubinstall ... try booting to the console in a recovery disk ... then:

mount the root directory and the boot directory.

use the command:

chroot /dev/hda3

(you substitute the acual root partition device for /dev/hda3).

then do:

cd /boot/grub

then do:

You should be at the grub prompt ... do this:

setup (hd0)

then exit and reboot the system.
