Hi everyone!

I'm running on Redhat 8.0 now. I was actually trying to install MRTG to monitor my bandwidth usage. So first, i installed SNMP, then i installed MRTG, then now i'm supposed to install Apache in order to view the graphs generated by MRTG.

This was what happened :

[root@fakeserver root]# rpm -Uvh httpd-2.0.40-8.i386.rpm
warning: httpd-2.0.40-8.i386.rpm: V3 DSA signature: NOKEY, key ID db42a60e
error: Failed dependencies:
       /etc/mime.types is needed by httpd-2.0.40-8


I looked at my /etc folder and the file mime.types was missing. I copied this file from another server and it still doesn't work. Does anyone have any ideas?

I don't think merely copying the files would work...
You can try to install from the redhat CD.

Hi Hermant, what do you mean by installing from the Redhat cd? Reinstalling my Redhat 8.0 or install Apache from the cd? I have mounted the cd, and I am installing Apache from the cd. However, when i try to do that, there is one failed dependency, which says that mime.types is not in the /etc folder. Reinstalling RedHat 8.0 altogether is out of the question as I have other things that I need to retain on my box.

What can I do to solve this missing mime.types file problem?

I don't know specifically about RH8 ... but in RHEL, the package mailcap provides the file /etc/mime.types.
