Damn good instructions, yet I can't seem to get this working.

#1

I added the file saslauthd as per previous post

echo MECH=pam > saslauthd

#2

I came across the following in the maillog:

Jun 27 18:55:50 littlewhite2 MailScanner[3716]: User's home directory /var/spool/postfix is not writable
Jun 27 18:55:50 littlewhite2 MailScanner[3716]: You need to set the "SpamAssassin User State Dir" to a directory that the "Run As User" can write to

So I created the dir /var/spool/MailScanner/spamassassin and chown to postfix.postfix and added the line to SpamAssassin User State Dir = /var/spool/MailScanner/spamassassin in MailScanner.conf

Not sure if this was the correct fix but it stopped the error.

#3

Not sure things are starting in the correct order.
It looks like postfix is starting instead of MailScanner.
I have to stop postfix then restart MailScanner.

#4

I have tried testing the system by sending some "infected .pif" files to no avail.
I then tried testing sending the clam test files from the /doc/clam test directory. Still no good.

I want to say I've dotted all my I's and crossed all my T's but sure as I do...

Maybe I've been at it too long today...

I've pasted a few entries from the logs.

Thanks,

John

Just for the heck of it ... send me the pif file at:

mailing-lists@hughesjr.com

and lets see if my clamav stops it.
-----------------------------------------
When you startup MailScanner, there should be 2 postfixes (in and out) and a MailScanner process that start.

I am going to do the install again on a test box and see how it goes tomorrow.

If you are sending the IMAP stuff via squirrelmail, make sure you set your transport to SMTP.

If you are sending mail via an IMAP client to another local user, it won't be scanned ... the scan happens via SMTP ... when the mail comes into the box from outside.
