One of the great things about open source is there is tons of good software out there for free, but that also makes it hard to sort through. I wanted to start a thread where people could recomend good linux software that doesn't usually come standard with distros.

I haven't really gotten outside the "stock" software, xmms, gaim, gkrellm, OpenOffice, Firefox, thunderbird, the gimp, those storts of basic stuff, but I know there is more out there. What sort of programs do you guys use and and what for?

Opera.
Still argueably the best, and AFAIK have always had a free Linux version.

Pysol.
Have yet to see anything else as good and it is GPL'd.
