In our daily lives, we are often stuck with using Windows wether it be at work, school, or on a computer in which we have no choice on what operating system to run. Because we are all smart people, we know the benefit and freedom that free software gives us. I thought I would start a thread that would give people ideas on what free software is available for Windows. Please reply with any suggestions you may have as well.

Mozilla Thunderbird - Email Client
Mozilla - Web Browser
Mozilla Firefox - Web Browser
OpenOffice.org - A fully featured Office suite
The Gimp - Fully featured Graphics Manipulation program
XChat - IRC Client
Gaim - IM client supporting MSN, ICQ, Jabber, Yahoo!, IRC, AIM, Gadu-Gadu and Zephyr
MySQL - A powerful database server
Apache - The most popular web server on the internet
7-Zip - File archiver and compression program, supports 7z, ZIP, CAB, RAR, ARJ, GZIP, BZIP2, TAR, CPIO, RPM and DEB
Putty - Telnet/SSH client

I'm sure there are plenty that I'm forgetting, I'll tack on more as they come to me. I use most of these programs here in school, they are quite useful.

I have FireFox on every Windows PC they will let me put it on!

I use The Gimp on many windows machines as well.

I actually like MS Office, and I have to use it reguardless at work (Several custom MS Outlook forms and MS Access proprietary stuff).

At home, the only thing I do on Windows is make sure my wife can print from her XP machine. The only time I use my windows machine is to make sure my website works with IE and to install updates. (I have a Win2000 Domain controller and 3 XP PCs (1 workstation each for me, my wife and my daughter)... and 4 Linux PCs (My workstation, 2 servers and a test box). Did I mention my 2 Linux Laptops?

4+3+2 = 9 PCs ....it's kind of silly actually. 7 of them are right beside my desk!
