Hey,
I've recently installed SUSE 9.0 and I'm having problems with my sound. When i use xmms, it stops any sound from other programs playing through. As soon as i kill xmms the sound from other apps works fine. It's like it's hogging the sound unsure.gif My sound is an onboard ac'97 which works fine on windows ph34r.gif .
Any ideas? Cheers, Ste.

(PS. Im a newb tongue.gif )

That card doesn't support FULL DUPLEX mode (at least not in your current configuration) ... so if it is making sound by one program (xmms) it can't make sound from another program at the same time.

If you use KDE, go to the Menu -> Control Center

select Sound and Multimedia

select Sound System

click the Sound I/O tab

Check the box for Enable Full Duplex Operation

If the card will support it and the drive will support it, you will hear more than one item at a time now.

In my situation, I had to chmod 666 /dev/dsp0. Otherwise I got "Permission Denied" errors when I enabled full duplex.
