Anyways of resuming thie bootstrap from where it failed? or do I have to compile from scratch?

I think you can skip the Portage build, you should just be able to re-mount the drives and chroot into the new bash. I did that when I was trying to install gentoo, but my installation failed, I think that was for other reasons though. You can give it a try and see what happens.
