Whats this Lie-nix Thing?

so i've got my HP pavilion zt3000 laptop and i'm running Mandrake 10.0 RC1

on said laptop there is a 802.11g card (ooooooh, aaaaaaah)

unfortunately, the drivers won't install for sundry reasons says that i should install hostap-driver-0.1.3

i do but when i get around to 'make'ing it, it reads:

Makefile:20: /usr/src/linux/.config: No such file or directory
Makefile:38: WARNING: No kernel PCMCIA support found and PCMCIA_PATH is not defined
Makefile:45: WARNING: Linux wireless extensions, CONFIG_NET_RADIO, not enabled in the kernel
make: *** No rule to make target `/usr/src/linux/.config'. Stop.

i think that this may be because of the way mandrake stores the kernel in the file tree

does this mean that i must compile a new kernel?

i tried that and when i 'make xconfig' i get the following:

/boot/config-2.4.25-0.pre7.3mdk:2611: trying to assign nonexistent symbol VIDEO_QCAMVC_USB
/boot/config-2.4.25-0.pre7.3mdk:2612: trying to assign nonexistent symbol LPFC
/boot/config-2.4.25-0.pre7.3mdk:2613: trying to assign nonexistent symbol LPFC_SCSI
/boot/config-2.4.25-0.pre7.3mdk:2614: trying to assign nonexistent symbol LPFC_NET

except about a hundred similar error messages

is this normal? is it also because of the apperantly abnormal way in which mandrake 10 stores it's kernel?

more problems: also says that i should install the IPW2100 driver

the install directions tell me to 'sudo make install'

i do and it returns this:

sendmail: warning: My hostname localhost is not a fully qualified name - set myhostname or mydomain in /etc/postfix/
sendmail: fatal: config variable inet_interfaces: host not found: Widget
david is not in the sudoers file. This incident will be reported.

i changed the hostname with 'hostname -v [name]' but that doesn't help
