I am trying to read a connect to an smtp port and pipe a file into it. I can do the following on other Unix flavors:

telnet hostname 25 < testfile

Contents of the file are:

mail from:test@test.com
rcpt to:test1@test.com
data
Test Message
.

quit

But when I do this on RHE v3 my telnet session is immediately closed.

Any hint on what I am missing?

Thanks
Jamie

This should be the format:

HELO yourdomainname.com
MAIL FROM:<you@hostname.com>
RCPT TO:<recipient@hostname.com>
DATA
The stuff you want to type
.

BUT - it didn't work for me either.....
