I am trying to install Oracle 8i on Linux 8.0. I am not getting oracle's "welcome" screen when I start ./runInstaller. Has anyone done this? I cannot figure out what I am doing wrong. Is there information I can get on how to do this so I can figure out what I am doing wrong?.

ive installed oracle on rh8.0....considering the installer could be alot nicer
and simpler...it can be done.

you have to install a jvm on your machine...
use jre1.4.1 should work.....
and add the location of your jvm to your $PATH
you can not run the installer as root.....you
have to setup the usernames that they tell you
and run ./runInstaller as the user added...i think
its oradba...not sure though...
give that a try.....i have some documentation about it
ill have to dig up and can post it here.....
