Hi, I would appreciate any possible pointers to get my sendmail working to allow outbound email. It currently times out. I've rpm -e then -i with the standard 9.0 sendmail-8.12.8-4.src.rpm.
Once installed I changed the /etc/main/ line:

DAEMON_OPTIONS(`Port=smtp,Addr=, Name=MTA')dnl

to this:

dnl # DAEMON_OPTIONS(`Port=smtp,Addr=, Name=MTA')dnl

Then added 'sendmail: ALL' to the /etc/hosts.allow file.

I restarted the system, rather than just sendmail and networking (incase I was missing something).

I then used the following command line:

(the target email is an earthlink account).
sendmail some garbage text
^D (to end the session)

When I review the /var/log/maillog, I get the following:

Apr 6 17:21:48 localhost sendmail[1058]: alias database /etc/aliases rebuilt by root
Apr 6 17:21:48 localhost sendmail[1058]: /etc/aliases: 63 aliases, longest 10 bytes, 625 bytes total

Now, the snippet "DSN: Service unavailable" was not overlooked. But I can do a dig on any name and it's resolved.

I may play a linux expert on TV (not), but this one has me stummped. I have always had trouble with qmail or sendmail and I think it's got the best of me.

Any help (and I mean any) would be very much appreciated.
