I've just installed Redhat Linux 9. I connected my modem (external discovery 56000bps) and it is detected and configured. The problem is though that when I try to activate it, after configuring my dial up properties, I always get error code 8 and I am unsuccessful.
I'm not sure what error code 8 is, could this be a driver issue?
If so how can I install new drivers for it? I'm pretty much of a newbie when it comes to redhat so you'll probably have to talk to me like a 3 year old.

Thanks in advance

Last time I got error code 8 was when my modem could not detect dial-tone. It turned out that the phone cable was disconnected from the wall outlet, but I guess you already checked it, right?

Other than that, there is probably an error in the configuration but you have to post some more info. Is the modem hooked up to the serial port or USB? How do you configure your modem, are using KPPP or Network Device Control?

Let's try to tackle this, but not before we have the requested info.
