Hi,

I've heard you mention MythTV some times...and I decieded to actualy see what it is...well I've been to the site, and it has some features that I find rather cool smile.gif and nice visuals [ wow smile.gif ]

So I've already downloaded the main tar, and the addons, I don't plan on using any movie stuff on it, just that Wheater thingie...and the Music player [hope it can play MP3, and maybe WMA].

I've read the readme , so I'm also downloading MySQL [latest right now], I'm reading one of you're recent posts about the LAMP server, the MYSQL part...though it's a bit different for Fedora , I'm an in progress at this, so I don't know yet what problems I may encounter...

But If you have the time, can you perhaps tell me in a few steps how you've installed you're myth [as I told I only need the Music part, Wheater... that emulator part need external emulators right? or is it only a frontend, this thing looks like one of them GAME+MUSIC machines , I saw once ...]

Sincerely
Robert B

Hi,

I thought I post my progress, so things will be easier if I get into trouble :

So I've downloaded SQL, and read the readme file and installed the MySQL according to the Quick install in the Readme from source code, it started up without any problems...

Questions :

I've seen that I should change the default passwords for MySQL root, and demon , after I do this, what effects will it have, when will I need to use the demon password?

How do I make MySQL start up automaticaly during bootup?

Sincerely
Robert B

This is really not an error I think or wrong installation [I hope so]

I was just curious what MySQL test does...

but I don't seem to get it to go...

I mean I goto the /usr/local/mysql/mysql-test

and type in the following

[root@demon mysql-test]# ./mysql-test-run
Installing Test Databases
Removing Stale Files
Installing Master Databases
mysqld is missing - looked in ../bin
Error: Could not install master test DBs
[root@demon mysql-test]# ls
include install_test_db mysql-test-run r README std_data t var
[root@demon mysql-test]# ./install_test_db
mysqld is missing - looked in ../sql
[root@demon mysql-test]#

what does this mean? mysqld is the demon right? [I guess I would need to start it somehow?]

Sincerely
Robert B

Hi,

I'm starting MySQL each time manualy with ./mysql_safe wich tell me starting up databesa and hangs ... I waited for 4-5 minutes but nothing...

after I press CTRL-Z , and do the following

[root@demon bin]# ./mysqlshow mysql -p
Enter password:
Database: mysql
+--------------+
Tables
+--------------+
columns_priv
db
func
host
tables_priv
user
+--------------+

So I guess it started up anyway...

I will move onto installing MythTV now...

but please tell me what aditional things do you reccomend ?

Sincerely
Robert B

Hey ... on FedoraCore1 you can use apt to get MythTV.

apt-get mythtv

You can also add any, all, or none of the following with apt (if you have http://atrpms.physik.fu-berlin.de as one of your sources):

mythdvd
mythgallery
mythgame
mythmkmovie
mythmusic
mythnews
mythvideo
mythweather
mythweb

I only use mythtv and mythweather ...

apt-get also installs mysql ... it should install a working copy when it installs mythtv ... (and xmltv...and all the other mythtv requirements)

Thanks

I'm doing it now,

by the way when it's done, what do I need to do to get it running, what configuration files do I need to edit...

I've read in the manual that there is a ./setup but had no luck finding it...

Sincerely

One of the things you need is a TV Card that gets a tv signal (you probably have one, just checking) ... something similar to these. I don't necessarily recommend those, that is just some of the cards available...any bt878, bt848 or most of the newer TV cards work.

If you have a tvcard, once you install mythtv, you have to set it up ... I think the command is:

mythtvsetup

then you wnat to make sure mythbackend is running like this:

/etc/init.d/mythbackend restart

I have my MthTV running on Gentoo, so I am doing this from memory.

then you want to fill the database with channel info ... using the command mythfilldatabase.

Hi,

I've installed everything with apt-get ... even mysql

and get the following error when I run mysqld_setup

[root@demon /]# mythtvsetup
Unable to connect to database!
Driver error was [1/-1]:
QMYSQL3: Unable to connect
Database error was:
Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (2)

Unable to open database:
Driver error was:
QMYSQL3: Unable to connect
Database error was:
Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (2)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
my.cnf

[mysqld]
datadir=/var/lib/mysql
socket=/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock

[mysql.server]
user=mysql
basedir=/var/lib

[safe_mysqld]
err-log=/var/log/mysqld.log
pid-file=/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.pid

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I've got no /var/lib/mysql
nor /var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock

when I run apt-get install mysql , It says I've got the latest version

Sincerely
Robert B

ps.: please note that I've insatlled MySQL 4.x from source , it was working, but after that with apt-get mysql 3.x was installed for MythTV... is there a possibilty [not requiering half-demi-god-powers] to clean up this mess...if this is the problem...when I type mysql...it says that it can't find the dir...when I do create the dir , it can't find the file,
I guess it's not a GOOD idea to copy the file from 4.x to the 3.x path...

Find the mc.sql script ...

it might be in /usr/local/share/mythtv/database

(again ... i'm on gentoo not fedora) if not do this:

find / -name 'mc.sql'

do this:

cd /where-it-is
mysql -u root -p password < mc.sql

now try mythsetup
