We have developed an application in Java and are now porting the application to Linux. We are definitely newbies in Linux but the problem is that application looks different on different machines. The fonts are completely different.

I would like to know how we can insure the following

screen resolution 800X600
and a font that is common for all machines

How can I see the list of fonts available. It seems that changing the theme settings is not affecting the application

Many thanks
