I need to change the IP address on a Linux Server. I'm at the command prompt which starts with the forward arrow. > I have the the new ip address. Please help

the fastest way would be , but not permament,

type there :

ifconfig eth0

What is the Distro of linux?

Does the server currently have the other IP address (do the command ifconfig)

Are you logged in as root? (Command whoami to see who you are logged in as)
