the first thing I would recommend is that you upgrade to the latest kernel. New kernel drivers sometomes fix problems like that.

To upgrade to the latest software, look at this post .... do the optional and the required steps ... except the newest kernel is now different....it is now kernel-2.4.22.28mdk

So substitute 2.4.22.28 for wherever you see 2.4.22.21 in the original thread....
------------------------
Also, I used mirrors for mandrake in the US .... if you are not in the US, some other mirrors may be closer (or even if you are in the US, their maybe a faster connection for you than the one I listed.

How you can normally pick a closer mirror is this: ... pick one of these mirrors:

Mandrake Linux 9.2 for i586 and higher

In the original post, the urpmi.addmedia commands were:
CODE
urpmi.addmedia contrib ftp://ftp.phys.ttu.edu/pub/mandrake/9.2/contrib/i586 with synthesis.hdlist.cz

urpmi.addmedia Disk_1 ftp://ftp.phys.ttu.edu/pub/mandrake/9.2/i586/Mandrake/RPMS with ../base/synthesis.hdlist.cz

urpmi.addmedia Disk_3 ftp://ftp.phys.ttu.edu/pub/mandrake/9.2/i586/Mandrake/RPMS3 with ../base/synthesis.hdlist3.cz

If you wanted a mirror from (as an example) Poland ... you would look at the mirrors and pick one ... I'll use the second mirror listed in Poland...

To change the urpmi.addmedia statements, you would copy the part of the link up to the slash before 9.2 ... then paste it into urpmi.admedia statements, so they would become
CODE
urpmi.addmedia contrib ftp://ftp.ps.pl/mirrors/mandrake/9.2/contrib/i586 with synthesis.hdlist.cz

urpmi.addmedia Disk_1 ftp://ftp.ps.pl/mirrors/mandrake/9.2/i586/Mandrake/RPMS with ../base/synthesis.hdlist.cz

urpmi.addmedia Disk_3 ftp://ftp.ps.pl/mirrors/mandrake/9.2/i586/Mandrake/RPMS3 with ../base/synthesis.hdlist3.cz

Then do the same thing for the urpmi.addmedia for the update site ... it would become:
CODE
urpmi.addmedia update_source ftp://ftp.ps.pl/mirrors/mandrake/updates/9.2/RPMS with ../base/hdlist.cz

I would say that you had a problem with the selected mirror ... try another mirror for the updates ... do this:

urpmi.removemedia update_source

then do this:
CODE
urpmi.addmedia update_source http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/distributions/mandrake/Mandrake/updates/9.2/RPMS with ../base/hdlist.cz

Then:

urpmi.update -a

urpmi --auto-select

--------------------------------------
Did you use lilo or grub as your boot loader?

If lilo (the default), The update should write an entry into the /etc/lilo.conf. Edit the file /etc/lilo.conf and see if there is an entry for the new kernel.

If so, run the command:

lilo

since this is happening on more than one mirror ... I would say there is a problem with the hdlist.cz file ... I don't know why it isn't happening with me.

You can download all those files seperately...

libqt3-3.1.2-15.3.92mdk.i586.rpm

libqt3-devel-3.1.2-15.3.92mdk.i586.rpm

qt3-common-3.1.2-15.3.92mdk.i586.rpm

go to the directory the files are in (as the root user) and issue the command (all on one line):

rpm -Uvh qt3-common-3.1.2-15.3.92mdk.i586.rpm libqt3-devel-3.1.2-15.3.92mdk.i586.rpm libqt3-3.1.2-15.3.92mdk.i586.rpm

What you need to do for lilo.conf is edit it and duplicate the section for your current kernel (the one that you boot from) and change the name, path to the kernel, and path to the mkinitrd file to point to the new files in /boot

then save the file and run the command:

/sbin/lilo

and see if it completes without error ... then you should be able to select the new kernel to boot from.
