Whats this Lie-nix Thing?

I have a generic old school 56k modem that im trying to get to work on Red Hat 9. I know nothing about Linux, but I want to learn. I need an internet connection.... anybody out there......

I can give specs on the modem as soon as I get home from school.......

old school is 300 baud, I couldn't believe I could get files from someone else. WOOHOO!

... 56k is new!

Is it a winmodem?

WHat is the model and manufacturer?
