Can anyone tell me whether GRUB's numbering of primary partitions (0-3) is based on the order of the partitions in the partition table or on disk? fdisk gives a different order than parted, and fdisk says "Partition table entries are not in disk order." I need to refer to the second partition on the disk, which is /dev/hda3 -- is this (hd0,2) or (hd0,1)?

Any help would be much appreciated.

(hd0,2)

grub_number + 1 = /dev/hda_number
